Conclusion of Velyka Lepetykha School Number 2 Water Filter Project - Ukraine
The project was to purchase and install a water filter in the cafeteria at Velyka Lepetykha School Number 2.
The Water Filter Project undertaken by Velyka Lepetykha School Number 2 has created excellent results. With the help of Appropriate Projects, the school locally purchased a water filter, cartridge, water liter counter, and plastic piping.
The Aquafor Viking Water Purifier can filter up to 40,000 liters per cartridge, which should last the school year. At the end of the upcoming school year, a fundraiser will be held to help purchase a new filter.
As planned, school maintenance staff constructed a filtered water outlet in the kitchen for use by the cooks. However, the staff were also able to split the piping and create a secondary outlet for clean water at a sink that has been designated for drinking. This ingenuity has made our new “water fountain” a great success. Students and teachers alike now bring cups to school to drink our new water throughout the day! The school clearly appreciates the new water filter and all were impressed with bottles that contained clear, filtered water versus the discolored, unfiltered water.
Thank you so much Water Charity, for providing my school with not only the materials for clean water, but also the proof that clean water is an attainable goal. A sign has even been posted, alerting the students to the new, filtered drinking water. I hope this information, along with lessons I hope to conduct in the fall about clean water, will educate the students on their options for potable water and will encourage them to seek solutions that will benefit themselves and their community.
We again wish to thank The Soneva SLOW LIFE Trust for providing the funding for this project.
