Conclusion of MAFUREBO Primary School Water Project – Part 2 – Rwanda

Conclusion of MAFUREBO Primary School Water Project – Part 2 – RwandaThis project has been completed under the direction of Peace Corps Volunteer Avery Karlowich. To read about the beginning of the project, CLICK HERE.

This project was to construct an above-ground spigot and connect it to underground piping and to construct a concrete cover for the water tank.

Avery reports:

While purchasing the supplies in the market on the first day of the project one of the teachers of the Mafurebo Primary School ran into a former classmate. The former classmate had a truck and agreed to drive all the materials to the school in one trip, stating he was ecstatic about the project.

Construction began right away. In an effort to save costs on labor, teachers and parents helped dig trenches and lay materials.

Avery reports on how the project was received:

The project completion coincided with the end of the school year, an outdoor assembly was conducted to celebrate both events. The entire school was present, as well as PTA members and local government officials. Students danced and sang, speeches were given, and thank-yous were said to the American People, Peace Corps, and Water Charity.

I would like to thank Appropriate Projects for facilitating and making the second part of the MAFUREBO Primary School Water Project possible. To see the effects of instant deployment of resources for small but critical projects is momentous.

We again wish to thank The Soneva SLOW LIFE Trust for providing the funds for this project.
